2nd Voice Therapy Session

Today’s session was really intense. A little manipulation of the throat area and I could actually feel the difference. No vocal excercises yet though. Just trying to treat the base cause and symptoms first. Also recorded my voice for a comparison for next time. Apparently my muscles are quite tight and tense. All part of the hustle I guess. Next session is in the New Year. I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully remember to take my camera.

First Voice Therapy Session

I had my first voice therapy session last week. Basically an initial assessment. The real work will start in weeks to come. It was going ok until they asked me to fill out a form about how the condition affects my life and how “handicapped” it has made me feel. Man that was depressing. Also said no singing or rapping for a while :( Another one this week. I’ll keep you posted on how it went and how long they think that I’ll be out for!

The follow up to Kolkata Mong. Mamalla Sundown is named after the beautiful historic seaside town of Mamallapuram, TN. It’s half way between Chennai and Pondicherry. Blue skies, bluer sea, bright sunshine, gentle breeze and chilled out vibe. Oh and some dirty bass from the restaurant of our sea front hotel. Dubstep on the seaside in a tranquil town. Shout to Uncle for helping with naming! Inspired by the raag malkauns 2.

Kolkata Mong Based on a True Story

Kolkata Mong is a dubstep banger, sure to set the world skanking. A vocal Drum ‘n’ Bass remix will follow. With an original Indian style riff, driving beat, rocking guitars , vocals by Evey and wobbling bass, Kolkata Mong is a tune to savour.

The track was inspired by an event in an epic 1000 mile journey in a 2 stroke auto rickshaw (tuk tuk). The rally, for charity, took place along the east coast of India. With a top speed of 35 miles per hour, Nu:klea and his friends drove for 1 week. 80 km short of Kolkata, they ran into a monster traffic jam on the national highway and had to bed down for the night in a roadside motel. They hadn’t planned for this.

They were so close yet so far. Relaxing because they had nearly reached the destination, but anxious as they hadn’t quite. A chilled out tension in the air. That was the night of “Kolkata Mong.” This is the tune.

“I lost my voice, and found my sound” ‐ Nu:klea

Artist and producer, Nu:klea has a wealth of experience having been a club DJ, MC, band backing singer, broadcaster, promoter and manager across a number of genres. As well as know how gained from the business side, he has a great deal of artistic skill developed and honed by studying classical raga music and production with Berklee Music College.

As he has seen reaction to a range of good international music first hand people’s, he knows how to evoke emotion through song. This global outlook means that Nu:klea is well placed to cater for his growing international fan base. He has performed in the UK and Germany. Previous live appearances include Radio 1 Flava Stage the London Mela Rise Festival Nishaan residency with Soulshaker Birmingham.

“The Silent MC”

Production and live collaborations include work with Deewaan, Kalakaar, Audio Dakoos and DJ Toomsen. He currently represents Swati Natekar and Sardar Ali. Having recorded with DJ Sanj in 2004 and Guv from the Audio Dakoos in 2008, Nu:klea was working on a solo rap/singing album in early 2010. During the preparation period, he was struck down with virus rendering him unable to speak for a month and medically forbidden to speak loudly, let alone sing or rap. He is now on the mend.

After losing his voice, due to this prolonged condition, Nu:klea set about making dubstep and drum & bass to unleash his inner sound and creativity experimented with this sound for a number years he has started releasing these works.

He has been ordered to limit talking and not sing or rap at all. As usual, lyricists and artists have a lot to say and Nu:klea is the same. Take away their main form of self‐expression from and you will get some interesting results. The “Silent MC” Nu:klea now let’s his music do the talking. He lost his voice, and found his sound. The international groove of BritBeat is rolling.
